Elon Musk’s SpaceX set a new record for the number of rockets launched in a calendar year on Friday, breaking last year’s total of 31 missions during a frenetic campaign to launch its own internet satellites into orbit.
SpaceX is racing to build a constellation of broadband satellites called Star-link, a service that is mostly used by consumers and has hundreds of thousands of internet users. This launch marks SpaceX’s 32nd flight of 2022 utilizing its workhorse Falcon 9 rocket.
Best regards to the SpaceX team for their record-breaking number of launches! The operation that put 46 Starlink satellites in low-Earth orbit was followed by a tweet from SpaceX CEO Musk.
The mission launched from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, where the company has a launch facility. So far, SpaceX has launched nearly 3,000 Starlink satellites into orbit.
The mission on Friday maintains SpaceX on target to reach its objective of 52 orbital missions by the end of the year, virtually doubling its yearly launch cadence with the Falcon 9 rocket, which SpaceX claims can be reused up to 15 times.
The vast majority of those missions have been and will be in-house Starlink missions.
Musk founded Space-X in 2002 with the goal of normalizing interplanetary travel. In recent months, the company has shifted its focus from manufacturing Falcon 9 rockets to managing a fleet of those already built, investing heavily in infrastructure for refurbishing boosters on short timelines.
The business has used the same approach with its fleet of Crew Dragons, reusable spacecraft with a gumdrop form that launch atop the Falcon 9 and transport people to orbit and the International Space Station.
SpaceX has launched Starlink satellites into space faster than competitors in the satellite internet race, such as satellite operator OneWeb, thanks mainly to the Falcon 9’s rapid reusability and the advantage associated with using in-house rockets.
OneWeb, which is approaching the end of an internet constellation with fewer satellites, has launched its satellites on Russia’s Soyuz rocket. After cancelling its Soyuz contract due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the company intends to use the Falcon 9 this year.
SpaceX – Success
SpaceX made history on May 30, 2020, when it initiated NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken into space aboard its Crew Dragon spacecraft atop a Falcon 9 rocket. The launch was dubbed Demo-2, and once completed, the launch vehicle would be certified for daily transportation of people to space.
Both men successfully returned to Earth on August 2nd, 2020, aboard the platform’s SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft.
SpaceX has a number of new missions in the works, several of which are now in progress and others of which are about to launch.
One of these missions was originally announced at the beginning of February 2021, when the platform announced its goal of launching its first trip to carry an all-civilian crew to space with the public being asked to enter a competition to win one of the seats on the spaceship.
On June 3, 2021, Space-X will launch its 22nd International Space Station cargo resupply mission under a contract with NASA. This mission will carry more than 7,300 pounds of scientific equipment, crew supplies, and vehicle hardware, including new solar arrays, for the orbital laboratory and its crew. 128 sparkling young squids and 5,000 water bears will also be transported by the rocket to the International Space Station.
According to Business Insider, NASA has also selected the platform to offer launch services for an astrophysics mission that will be exploring the sky in the near-infrared. The acronym SPHEREx, which stands for Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer, refers to the two-year mission.
These are only a few of the projects SpaceX has been focusing on. In order to achieve its ultimate aim of establishing life on Mars, the business still has a long way to go.
SpaceX – How Much The Tickets Cost?
It will cost about $450,000, and potential passengers must pay a $150,000 deposit to reserve a space before the remaining balance is due.
